Boreham Wood extended their lead at the top of the National League to ten points with a professional 2-0 away win at Sutton United on Friday night. Chris Bush and Danny Cashman scored the goals, both created by Zak Brunt, to secure an eleventh win in thirteen league games. This impressive run of form, has seen them amass 35 points from a possible 39, claiming the division's best attack and defence.

Sutton started brightly at Gander Green Lane, putting the Wood defence under pressure. Omar Mussa had two efforts from distance and a cross that deflected off Temi Babalola's head and over. Boreham Wood goalkeeper Ted Curd was also involved in a scramble where Sutton felt the ball had crossed the line, but the officials disagreed. The hosts' best chance of the half saw Emmanuel Osadebe shoot into the side netting.

Manager Luke Garrard made a tactical change at the break, introducing Wright for White. The visitors grew into the game and took the lead sixteen minutes after half time. From a Zak Brunt corner on the left, Chris Bush powered a header goalwards. "I headed the visitors in front sixteen minutes after half time," Bush said. Jake Taylor's attempted clearance came too late as the ball was adjudged to have crossed the line.

The goal changed the game. Sutton, who had made a triple substitution at half time, rarely threatened afterwards. Boreham Wood sealed the points ten minutes from time. Regan Booty intercepted a poor clearance, exchanged passes with substitute Conor Wilkinson and found Brunt, who set up Danny Cashman for a simple finish. "I added a second ten minutes from time against the side I had a brief loan spell with last season," Cashman noted. Sutton's only late response was a Jermaine Francis effort well saved by Curd.

The victory solidifies Boreham Wood's position as runaway leaders in the standings. Their relentless schedule continues next Saturday with an FA Cup trip to Woking, a fixture that will test the depth of their squad as they aim to maintain momentum across all competitions. Manager Luke Garrard will be hoping his key players can recover quickly from this physical encounter to face another challenging away day.

Chairman Danny Hunter has revealed the club has overcome a severe injury crisis. He said the squad was "down to the bare bones, with just 14 or 15 fit players available for selection" over recent months. Hunter praised manager Luke Garrard for not making excuses and confirmed the club's smart recruitment has now restored healthier squad depth. The leaders, seven points clear at the top, welcome AFC Fylde next.
